Eddie’s Story

My name is Eddie and I’ve been struggling with drug addiction for the last 9 years. My addictions lead me to the loss of my business, my family, and home. In the last 2 months of my active addiction my behavior became unbecoming of the way I was raised. I resorted to shoplifting to support my drug addiction.

Then by the grace of God I got caught and went to jail. I spent 2 ½ months incarcerated, then was released on probation. The next day I reported to probation and was ordered to start the Macon Day Report Center, which is a Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation program with the Georgia Department of Corrections. Then my probation officer asked me “Where are you going to stay?” I said, “I’m homeless so I’m going to walk to the Salvation Army and see if they can help me.” I went there and they told me “All the beds are full but I could wait until 6:30 and have something to eat.” So I went outside to wait. While waiting I prayed to God to help me find a place to stay. Then shortly after praying my probation officer showed up and she asked me “How did you make out?” I told her “They didn’t have any empty beds.”

Then she called Mr. Randy Jackson at The Macon Rescue Mission. When she hung up the phone she told me they could squeeze me in but I needed to hurry because they were going to eat soon. So I hurried and when I was walking up the drive of the Macon Rescue Mission I saw on the front of the building in big gold letters “Jesus Cares” and I said to myself “He surely does.”

When I went in I had the best meal I’ve eaten in many months. It just so happened that the day I came to the Mission was my 55th birthday and I even had cake! God certainly blessed me that day.

I’ve been living at the Macon Rescue Mission 2 ½ months now. I’m 5 months clean from drugs, I’m law abiding, 20 lbs heavier, and walking in the will of God. I’ve been given a new life.

Words alone cannot express my appreciation for Officer Misty Jenkins, Mr. Randy Jackson, the staff and supporters of The Macon Rescue Mission. I can see God’s mighty hand working through you all! May God’s countenance shine on you all. May God bless you and keep you all.

Eddie later adds:
Now I will soon have one year clean. The Macon Rescue Mission gave me structure. I have had so many people say they have seen God do a mighty work in my life. I’ve seen God manifest Himself to me through the Macon Rescue Mission and through the church that I now attend. In spite of the rough times we are all facing, God is still creating miracles. I’m sure I’m not the only one who has found himself in a homeless situation and for myself and speaking for others, we thank God for the Macon Rescue Mission.
